Newport Decemr. 10th. 1754.
Sir
In Obediance to your Excellencys command I have made out A Muster Rool of the Regiment of the Regiment of Carteret under my command, also seperate list of the field Officers & Captains.
Since the appointment by the President Mr. Rowan there has not been any of the officers belonging to the Regiment Dyed or removed.
Neither doth there occur to me of any further regulations at present to be made in the Regiment.
We never had any Arms or Ammunition from his Majesty's Stores Since there has been a Regiment in the County.
As to the Militia Law I know of no Defect.
We have no Indians belonging to the County, those that are nearest to us are in Hyde County, which is About fifty Miles to the Eastward of this place.
I must beg leave to mention to your Excellency that the County of Carteret lies on the Sea [Coast] & in Case a Warr shou’d happen, the Inhab[itants] are liable to be very much Exposed by the Enemy for want of Arms and Ammunition.
I am yo’r Excellys most
Obedt. humble Servt.
Thos. Lovick
