October 6th, 1919.

Hon. Geo. W. Wilson,
Solicitor 14th District,
Charlotte, N.C.

My dear Mr. Solicitor:-

I am in receipt of your esteemed favor of October 2nd, and will be very glad indeed to confer with you about the killing of the five men in Charlotte at any time that you may designate.

I am profoundly convinced that the killing of these men should be thoroughly investigated. The tragedy occurred while I was out of the State, and I know absolutely nothing about the facts leading up to this killing, but certainly five men ought not to be shot down and a large number of others wounded without ascertaining in a proper way, if possible, just who did the killing and why. I do not think that any legal technicalities ought to stand in the way of this investigation. It appears that the grand jury is the proper party to make it, but I think that the grand jury ought to have before it the report of the Solicitor and the Attorney General and have in some other representative of the State to assist the grand jury in getting at the facts in the case. I am not pretending to intimate in any degree any opinion on the facts in the case, but I do say that a full investigation should be made by the grand jury and the report of its findings given to the public.

Sincerely yours,

[unsigned]
