LAWYERS
MARION, NORTH CAROLINA

Hon. Locke Craig,
Raleigh, N.C.

Dear Governor:-

I went to see Mrs. Connally yesterday and also saw Mr. Pearson, who consulted with us about Mitchells Park.

Mrs. Connally spoke very pleasantly and appreciatively of your letter and its form. She does not, however, feel justified in making the sacrifice required in following your suggestion.

As I told you, she very highly values this property and feels that her circumstances are not such as to justify making so great donation to the State.

I had written to her that I would be in Asheville, and while my letter did not advocate her acceptance of your suggestion, I did point out the appreciation the State would feel if she felt inclined to do so.

Mr. Peason also spoke very pleasantly of the letter, and of you, but he was in accord with Mrs. Connally that if the State took it she should, as was anticipated for other owners who hold less valuable property, receive compensation.

I appreciate your attitude in the matter and regret that I am unable to assist you in anything you desire to do for the State.

With warm regards, I am

Yours truly,

J W Pless
