Sir,

Yesterday Captain Dalrymple, Commander of Fort Johnston, in Your Province, made his Appearance in this Town, & soon after the Pitt Packett Boat Arrived here from England, by which I was Honored with a Letter from The Earl of Egremont, Enclosing a Petition from the said Captain Dalrymple to His Majesty, of which I herewith transmit you a Copy; And His Lordship is pleased to Signify to me, that it is the King's Commands, I should make the Necessary Enquiry into the State of this matter, &ca.

I Therefore think the best, and only way to put in Execution His Majesty's Orders, will be to order a General Court Martial to be held at this place for the Tryal of Captain Dalrymple, as he happens now to be here; And you will please to Order all such Evidences as you may think Necessary to Attend at the said Tryal, to proceed hither without Delay; You will be particularly carefull that the Evidences you do send are furnished with Every thing they have to Advance on the subject that there may be no Reason for Adjourning the Court Martial after it is Assembled.

I am with great Regard

Sir
