Sir,

I am to own the Favor of your Letter of the 4th January, which I received two Days ago from Mr. Rogers, who, at the Same time, Delivered me the Recommendation mentioned therein, which I Could have Wished, for his Sake, had come Sooner; as it is not in my power, in the present Situation of Affairs, to provide for him in the Army—

With Regard to the Certificate, which the Assembly have Requested you to procure, of the Number of Troops Raised by your Province in the years 1760 & 1761; I am to Acquaint You, that in Obedience to the Directions of the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, I have transmitted to their Lordships, a State of the Troops Noted and Actually Raised by the Several Colonies since the Year 1760 Inclusively; in which State North Carolina is Set Down, agreable to the Returns that Came to my knowledge, which was all that I Could take upon me to Certify.

I am, with great Regard,

Sir, &ca.
