Hon. J. O. Carr,
United States District Attorney,
Wilmington, N.C.

My dear Mr. Carr:-

Enclosed find copy of a letter I have just addressed to the Attorney General of the United States. I do not hesitate to say to you that I think the prosecution of this old man would be the very refinement of cruelty. The rumor that comes to me is to the effect that you yourself do not approve of this prosecution, and I desire to commend tour cense of justice and propriety.

Sincerely yours,

[unsigned]
