Governor Bickett

Dear Sir

Will yuo please advise me why it is that J. W. Carter of Maxton, N.C. has three boys of War age and not a one of them in the war not a one married & in fine circumstances while Mr. A. P. Beasley of Maxton NC R # 5 has three boys one married all three in the war and he or Mr Beasley is a renter and farmer and is 66 years old and his wife in poor health and he not able to do much work himself. it looks like their is some parciality shown here & their are others in the same shape. J. W. Carter has a lot of influence in the comunity. he is getting his roads worked & land ditched with the County’s money from his Store to his farms. we have some public roads here and we cant get a thing done. I am a tax payer and dont wish to have to pay any more taxes to ditch Carters land. I have bought bonds to help the Goverment & stamps [illegible] [illegible] comittee for thrift stamps & red Cross and done a lot of work. I refer you to any body in Maxton R L McLeoud. A. J. Colling[illegible] C. B. Thompson, or any others in town

Please let me hear from you & oblige

D. J. McLean
