Your letter of the 17th reached me about six o’clock Wednesday evening, the 19th, too late to take any action in the case you mention, and, in fact, the matter is entirely outside of my jurisdiction any way. I might have gotten the local board to re-open the question if I had received the letter several days before the call for the men on the 19th. Of course it was absolutely impossible for me to do anything after I received the letter as the drafted men were already on their way to Columbia.
